Current Opportunities

The District of Wells currently is looking to fill four (4) positions:

  • General Labourer (2)

  • Heritage Marketing Assistant (1) (Canada Summer Student grant)

  • Wildlife Interface Assistant (1) (Canada Summer Student grant)

Summer Student Positions:

To qualify for a Summer Student Position, the applicant must be:

(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year;

(c) intends to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year;

(d) is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical program;

(e) is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;

(f) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

HERITAGE MARKETING ASSISTANT

Survey and mapping of the Wells-Barkerville Cemetery - utilize information to update District map and to inform the development of a brochure on the historic aspects of the cemetary. Continue to assist the work of a Wells Heritage Registry and liaise with the Wells Historic Society and Barkerville Historic Town. This position will also assist with the Wildlife Interface Assistant. Other work as assigned. This position will require walking on trails and working outdoors with different tools (both powered and manual) and will require lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Pay is $12.65 per hour for 30 hours a week. 

WILDLIFE INTERFACE ASSISTANT

Support oppotunities to improve knowledge of urban/wildlife interface in Wells and area; work with local businesses and not-for-profit to provide accurate information of local status on wildlife interface; develop handouts and worksheets to inform residents of interface issues. This position will also assist with the Heritage Marketing Assistant. Other work as assigned. This position will require walking on trails and working outdoors with different tools (both powered and manual) and will require lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Pay is $12.65 per hour for 30 hours a week.

GENERAL LABOURER POSITIONS

Title: General Labourer (2)

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week) to a maximum of 16 months. These positions are paid from the Rural Dividend grant as provided by the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development.

Wage: $20 per hour

Positions will be focused on Wildfire Mitigation and Beautification projects for the District of Wells, as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor.

Statement of General Duties:

The following are examples of work to be undertaken by the General Labourers:

  • Wildfire mitigation including clearing of debris, fallen trees, bushes, etc
  • general yard maintenance
  • painting
  • heavy lifting
  • building/construction projects as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Other:

  • The successful candidates must be in good physical shape as there is heavy lifting involved and dirty repetitive tasks
  • Candidates will be required to work with power tools, chain saws and other bush equipment. Training will be provided to the right candidates.
