The District of Wells, one of B.C.’s smallest municipalities, nestled in the Cariboo Mountains near such famous tourism destinations as Barkerville Historic Town and Bowron Lakes Provincial Park, requires a unique, friendly and creative person to fill the role of Economic Development Officer.  This position is a contractual position and the continuation of the Economic Development Officer is subject to renewed funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT). 


The duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

    • Promoting the Wells, Barkerville, Bowron Lakes area using a variety of media including the design and development of print and electronic ads
    • Undertaking tourism and business development initiatives
    • Organizing and facilitating local cooperative marketing ventures
    • Providing support services to local non-profit organizations as needed; and
    • assisting District staff with various miscellaneous tasks as directed.
  • Your work schedule may be flexible, but is subject to the approval of your supervisor. Whenever possible, hours worked should coincide with days and times when the District office is open.
  • You will be responsible for tracking your hours worked and submitting a time sheet to the District for periodic payment.
  • Over the term of your employment not more than a total of 865.72 hours may be worked by, and paid to, the District’s Economic Development Coordinator / Marketing Coordinator.

Public Works Superintendent


Title: Superintendent of Public Works

Hours of Work:  Full Time and on call as needed

Salary Position with Benefits


Statement of General Duties: 

The successful candidate must be in good physical shape as there is heavy lifting

                        involved and dirty repetitive tasks. The position is responsible for the delivery of water and wastewater services, supervision of road maintenance and repair contractors, parks, sanitation, and building and vehicle maintenance. He/she must supervise and lead public works employees in an effective and responsible manner. He/she must also respond to concerns and complaints of residents in a professional manner


The incumbents are responsible to work under the direction of the Chief

Administrative Officer and/or their designate.



Minimum qualifications:

  • Three years of experience working with municipal sewer and water systems
  • Valid EOCP Water Treatment 2 certification
  • Valid BCWAA Wastewater 2 certification
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License or higher, air brake endorsement preferred
  • Ability to undertake physical labour
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication and supervisory skills
  • Contractor (heavy equipment) supervisory experience
  • High school grade 12 diploma
