The Wells-Barkerville-Bowron Lakes area is your home base for adventure in the Cariboo. Bowron Lakes Provincial Park is "One of the Top 10 Canoeing Destinations in the World", as voted by Outdoor Magazine, and the Wells area has one of the largest and best-maintained trail networks in all of British Columbia.

In addition to the well-known Barkerville Historic Site and the world-famous Bowron Lake chain, Wells offers an extensive network of trails for hikers of all levels. There is also great mountain biking for x-country riders or for riders looking to experience stunning alpine trails. Our trail network includes double-track, single-track technical, and multi-use trails. Check out the Wells and Area Trails Society website or pick up a trail guide in town. If you can catch a local rider, you might discover some riding not yet listed! Mix up the riding and hiking and challenge yourself in the Seven Summits Challenge.

With the numerous lakes in the Wells-Barkerville-Bowron area, there are also endless opportunities for canoeists and fishers. Jack O' Clubs Lake, located right outside the scenic mountain community of Wells is a lovely spot to put in the canoe and do some evening fishing.

If you are looking specifically for fishing the region offers a wealth of hidden spots. Many of the small lakes and rivers are only accessible by hiking, however, there are some easily accessible by vehicle. Make sure you pick up a fishing license and a copy of the current regulations before you go.
